I Let T.V. Babysit My Kids Sometimes. So What.

When I was pregnant I made an idealistic, far from realistic, list of things that I was going to do and not going to do with my beloved double blessings. As many first time moms tend to do, I was very rigid in my stance and views on the way I was going to raise my children, and the things that I was going to allow them to do.

On the top of my list I vowed to never let the television babysit my kids, especially at a young age. I always had a ridiculously self righteous view on this. My children were never going to sit glued to the tube. Never.
Now I definitely do not think it is right for kids to sit in front of the television for hours, that is a definite no no, but I was viewing even small amounts of TV watching as unnecessary.

Well after the twins popped out, my idealistic motherhood bubble was popped as well, as I began to discover the need to have a moment free to take a shower, and how two screaming babies can ruin a wonderful 10 minute shower time.

This is when I discovered Comcast's OnDemand, (thanks mom for introducing this beautiful channel to me :) ) where there is a channel just for babies. Where 10 min Baby Genius shows, with songs and colors galore, are found. Where my twins learn 10 minutes of Espanol while I shower off baby spit up, dried up sweet potatoes and pears, and wipe all the breast milk spots off of my tired twin mom body.

Who knew how glorious ten uninterrupted moments of time could help recharge your batteries and give you the extra push to jump full swing into loving and nurturing your little ones. Mom's have one of the toughest jobs on the planet, and we can get burned out way too easily sometimes.

I suggest taking advantage of the telly every once in a while, because 10 minutes can turn a worn out, exhausted mommy, into a Disney princess, full of theme songs and laughter.

iLove: Chai Tea

When I was a girl I had one goal and one goal only, for the most part, and that was to be a princess  lady with class.

I read classy lady books, shout out to Louisa May Alcott for "Little Women", watched classy lady movies such as movies that had girl spies as the main character, wore classy lady clothes, which consisted of skirts and dresses, and wanted to ride my bike side saddle just like any classy gentlewoman would.

My motto, right after "what would Jesus do?'

Anything that strikes me as classy, and speaks to my inner hippie, I immediately add it to my list of loves; which is why chai tea is a prominent fixture on that list.

Ahh chai I doth love you so!

Is it because of its creamy decadence when milk is added and stirred in a clockwise motion?

Is it because it has half the caffeine content of coffee and gives you an even range of energy, instead of rapidly spiking then dropping your energy level?

Is it because it centers my chi and makes me feel like I can take over the world?

Or is it because everytime I drink a cup I feel like I am Audrey Hepburn smoking a cigarette in one of those fancy cigarette holders?

It is for all those reasons and more that I am the self proclaimed spokesperson for all things classy  chai.

I Am A Human Jungle Gym. That is All.

When my boys aren't hanging from my boobs like baby Tarzan's, they are climbing on me; kind of like baby Tarzan's.

The have just turned 7 months, have learned to sit up, and realize that there is more to life than the area of their play mats. These kids want to explore, and explore they will.

They. Never. Sit. Still. Not. Ever.

Baby boy A (I still don't know if I want to reveal their names quite yet) who is the bigger twin has already bumped his cute bigger than average little head more times than I care to count.

Go ahead and lay the bad mother award on me.

I would now like to take this time to thank every single person that lied to told me things would get easier when my boys got older. Guess what? It hasn't.

I am still sleep deprived, and my nerves are now shot to shreds because I am constantly worried that my boys are going to get hurt trying to learn to crawl legitimately.  And because they are CONSTANTLY vying for my affection at every possible moment.

Sometimes I miss the days when I could lay them down on their soft little blankets on the floor and leave the room because I knew they weren't going anywhere, and they weren't trying to put any and everything in their mouths.  And when they didn't really care who got picked up first.

They are now sleeping but I can still feel their tiny baby hands all over my body as they both sat rolled in my lap because, heaven forbid I hold only one baby at a time. They both had to pull my hair, then pull each other's hair, then cry because it hurt, then try to breastfeed though my shirt, then try to bite my boob off cause they really didn't want to eat.

Then cry because they were sleepy. Then get silly and dissolve into giggles because they were sleepy. Until eventually, they passed out.

My kiddos are insane. And I absolutely love it.

iLove: My Infantino Play Mat

Whenever I need a break to go to the bathroom, brush my teeth, do my hair, eat, drink, or any other little task that I took for granted before my little love bugs got here, I reach for their Infantino play mat.

That play mat has given me countless minutes where I can catch me breath by keeping my boys thoroughly entertained. I am beginning to realize that most of my go to products are of the Infantino brand, but they are wonderful and my kiddos love them.
The playmat that I bought them

The boys have two play mats, both Infantino, one that their father and I bought them and one that they received as a gift. They love the one that was a gift. Go figure.

But if they like then I love it! Play mats are definitely a great way to go to keep your baby entertained and contained in a safe place for them to explore and have tummy time, (before they learn how to scoot/crawl and break away from the mat).

The play mat they love. Can I blame them though? This thing is big enough for a bicycle built for 2!

Joy In The Journey

Our society has been tricked into thinking that we have to spend our entire life achieving huge goals.
Achievements that will show others that our lives are filled with meaning. That we matter. That we aren't living in vain.

So we follow these rules that were set for us. We run around from one goal to another, never appreciating the steps that were taken to reach our objective, or to appreciate what we have accomplished.

We never feel fulfilled unless we are taking steps to accomplish a big goal or planning a new target to reach.

But that is where the problem lies, because we were not created to live for the next big thing. We were created to find joy in the small things of life.

"A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God"
Ecclesiastes 2:24

We were created to find joy, fulfillment, and satisfaction in the moments that many take for granted. To find joy in the journey. In every step and every day that lead up to the great big moments that we are taught to work towards.

Life is a journey not a destination, and when we begin to treat it as such, our appreciation for the small moments grow.
